Get a real feel for Hamburg’s character, its rich maritime heritage with its creative, energetic atmosphere. Spend time around the waterfront that has shaped the city for centuries, and experience neighbourhoods like St Pauli that are full of personality. There is a real mix of working port city, but also a place that embraces art, music, food and culture in a very relaxed way.
Day 1
Start with breakfast at Nord Coast Café before visiting the Maritime Museum. Head to the Elbphilharmonie for its excellent harbour views, then take a harbour boat tour to see Hamburg from the water. Spend the evening exploring St. Pauli and the Reeperbahn, including the Beatles landmarks, with a stop for ice cream at Luicella’s before dinner and drinks in the Schanzenhöfe brewery district.
