The ultimate three-week itinerary for Vietnam!🇻🇳
Starting in the vibrant south with Ho Chi Minh City — a bustling hub full of culture, history, and lively nightlife — before weaving north through the adventurous highlands of Da Lat, the charming ancient streets of beautiful Hoi An, the historic imperial city of Hue, the jaw-dropping caves of Phong Nha, the bustling capital of Hanoi and the stunning landscapes of Ninh Binh, Ha Giang, and Sapa.
This itinerary is designed to showcase the very best of Vietnam, from its dynamic cities and peaceful countryside to its breathtaking mountains and UNESCO-listed wonders.
If you’re planning a trip to Vietnam, this itinerary is for you! Whether you’re chasing waterfalls, exploring historic towns, cruising through limestone landscapes, or motorbiking along jaw-dropping mountain passes, this route covers it all! 💫
Week 1: Ho Chi Minh City to the Highlands of Lam Dong 🏙️
Begin your adventure in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam’s energetic commercial hub. Spend two to three days exploring historical landmarks such as the War Remnants Museum, Notre-Dame Cathedral, Ben Thanh Market, and the Cu Chi Tunnels just outside the city. Enjoy the fusion of French colonial architecture and modern Vietnamese culture, and don’t miss trying local dishes like bánh xèo and cơm tấm.
From there, travel to Lam Dong Province, home to the charming mountain town of Da Lat. Nestled in pine forests and known for its cool climate, Da Lat offers a peaceful break from the urban rush. Visit the Crazy House, Xuan Huong Lake, Datanla Waterfall, and nearby flower gardens. If you’re into adventure, try canyoning or rent a motorbike to explore tea plantations and misty hills.
Week 2: From Ancient Towns to Imperial Cities 🏮
Head north to Quang Nam Province and spend a few days in Hoi An, one of Vietnam’s most beloved destinations. With its preserved ancient streets, colorful lanterns, and riverside charm, Hoi An is perfect for slow exploration. Tailor shops, local markets, cooking classes, and nearby beaches (like An Bang) make it a favorite among travelers.
Next, travel to Hue, the former imperial capital in central Vietnam. Visit the Imperial Citadel, royal tombs, and the Thien Mu Pagoda. A boat ride on the Perfume River offers a tranquil way to take in the city's historical grandeur.
Continue your journey to Quang Binh Province, where you can explore Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, home to some of the world’s most spectacular caves. Don’t miss Paradise Cave and, if time allows, an adventure tour into Son Doong, the world’s largest cave.
Week 3: Northern Beauty and Mountain Majesty 🏯
Travel further north to Ninh Binh, often called “Halong Bay on land.” Ride a sampan boat through Tam Coc or Trang An, and visit Hoa Lu Ancient Capital or the cliffside Bich Dong Pagoda. This area’s limestone karsts, lush paddies, and calm rivers make it a photographer’s dream.
From there, head to Hanoi, Vietnam’s capital. Spend a couple of days exploring the Old Quarter, Hoan Kiem Lake, Temple of Literature, and Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum. Savor street food like bún chả and egg coffee in this lively cultural center.
Next, journey to Ha Giang, one of Vietnam’s most remote and stunning regions. Rent a motorbike and ride the Ha Giang Loop, which offers jaw-dropping views of mountains, deep valleys, and ethnic minority villages. Stop in Dong Van and Meo Vac for local experiences.
End your trip in Lao Cai, the gateway to Sapa and the northern highlands. Trek through terraced rice fields, visit ethnic villages, and take in the majestic scenery of Mount Fansipan—the "Roof of Indochina."
This three-week itinerary offers a full-spectrum experience of Vietnam, from vibrant cities to serene countryside and misty mountains. Each stop brings you closer to the heart of this diverse and unforgettable country.
