This 3 day itinerary is perfect for giving you a great introduction to the beautiful country of Slovenia. From the iconic Lake Bled to epic caves, this short-and-sweet trip shows you the highlights quickly.
For this itinerary, Lake Bled makes a great home base. The country is very small - everything is about an hour or so away by car. This trip has a little bit of everything - great food, history, and incredible unique nature spots!

Vila Alpina

This hotel is in a quiet part of Lake Bled, outside of the main tourist center. It offers private parking on site and is a short walk to the lake where you can rent a boat or take a swim.
Day 1
Day 1 starts off in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia. After exploring the heart of Old Town, pick up a rental car and drive out to Lake Bled for an afternoon on the lake! You can rent a SUP or wooden row boat to check out the island in the middle of the lake. It’s also worth hiking up to Ojstrica Viewpoint for a great view around sunset.

Day 2
For your second day in Slovenia, start the day by visiting Vintgar Gorge. You’ll walk along manmade walkways through steep canyon walls and admire the powerful flowing water. Vintgar Gorge was my favorite thing in Slovenia!
Afterwards, make a quick stop at Slap Peričnik waterfall. You can see the falls from the parking lot or you can hike up for better views.
No trip to Lake Bled is complete without trying a Bled Cream Cake. Our hosts at our hotel insisted Zima Confectionary is the best in town and where all the locals go.
In the afternoon, head over to Straža Bled for a toboggan ride. This mountain coaster overlooks Lake Bled, giving you great views as you fly down the hillside. It goes surprisingly fast!
Lake Bled has a circumference of 6km, so you can easily bike or walk all the way around if you want to see the lake from every angle.

Day 3
On day 3, you’re going to say goodbye to Lake Bled and head south. Start your day by visiting Postojna Caves and Predjama Castle, which can be purchased together as a combo ticket.
Slovenia is home to over 14,000 caves and Postojna is the largest. There are even unique creatures called olms (and nicknamed “baby dragons” 🐉) that live in this cave and you can see one on the tour.
Predjama Castle is a medieval castle strategically built into a cave. It’s not a very ornately decorated castle, but it’s probably one of the most unique castles you’ll ever visit.
Finally, if you have extra time before leaving Slovenia, spend your afternoon in Piran. Slovenia has a very narrow coastline and Piran sits as a little outcropping in the Mediterranean. Take a walking tour of the coastal town to wrap up your trip to Slovenia. Check out this Piran Walking Tour with Local Wine and Food Tasting: https://viator.tpx.lt/ApsNrrp8
