Maui is one of the most popular islands in Hawaiian islands and for good reason. 🏝️ 🌺 It’s stunningly gorgeous and has endless activities. In fact, you could probably spend month here before you risked running out of things to do 🏄♂️ 🤿
This 6 day itinerary covers enables you to see some well-rounded highlights of the island, from whale watching to the Road to Hana to sunrise at the top of a volcano! Maui is perfect for honeymoons (it’s where I went on mine!) but also great for families.
Renting a car is the best way to get around Maui. You can walk from the hotel to a few places but to make the most of your time there, you’ll need to drive. You can search for your rental car here: https://rentalcars.tpx.lt/1qNpn4Q3

Recommended Stays

Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa
I stayed at the this hotel on my honeymoon in Maui and it exceeded my expectations. The views from the ocean-view rooms are perfect, the breakfast is top notch, and there’s plenty to do on-site, including multiple restaurants, pools, and a lovely spa. You can even snorkel right from the beach at the hotel!

Day 1
Your first day is all about getting settled into the hotel and familiar with the area. Head to The Snorkel Store to pick up a snorkel, mask, and fins so that you can snorkel right from the beach at the hotel!
Parking at Whaler’s Village can be difficult during busy days, but you can take a free trolley or walk to/from the hotel.
End the day with a Hawaiian classic: a luau! Eat traditional Hawaiian foods while watching cultural performances like hula dancing and fire shows.

Day 2
If jet lag has you waking up early, start the day with a stroll or jog along the beachfront path which runs right in front of the hotel and other properties down to Whaler’s Village. After breakfast enjoy some more snorkeling off the beach.
Today’s highlight is a bee tour 🐝. I am scared of bugs, but getting to suit up and learn about bees, how they make honey, and why they’re so important in our ecosystem gave me a new respect for them. Plus, you can buy some delicious honey to take home with you!
In the afternoon, check out Nakalele Blowhole at the north tip of the island. While it’s maybe not a true “hidden gem,” it definitely flies under the radar compared to many other places on Maui! Be very careful to keep a safe distance though!
After dinner at Maui Brewing Company, be sure to go to bed early because tomorrow has an early wake up call!

Day 3
You’ll have to wake up REALLY early today, but it will be worth it to see the sunrise at the top of Haleakalā (a dormant volcano and part of a national park) 🌋 🌅 You can drive to Haleakalā yourself, but you’ll need to secure entry permits and drive in the dark along some scary switchbacks, so I highly recommend booking a tour that picks you up from your hotel. They even provide jackets because it’s very cold at up there no matter how warm it is at the beach. This is the tour we did: https://viator.tpx.lt/Qo1AsfIC
After a busy morning, take a nap back at the hotel before spending the evening on a sunset dinner cruise. If you’re lucky like we were, it may even turn into a whale-watching cruise! 🐋 Here’s the cruise we did which left from Whaler’s Village: https://gyg.me/jrVqMnEG

Day 4
🚗 ROAD TRIP! Today you’ll drive the iconic Road to Hana and stop at all the best spots along the way, from waterfalls and lava tubes to black sand beaches and the best banana bread you’ll ever have. This is a very full day driving to Hana and back - some people actually choose to split the drive into 2 days and spend the night in Hana town.

Halfway to Hana
13-710 Hana Hwy, Haiku, HI 96708, USA

Day 5
Now is your chance to make your own custom souvenir from your trip to Maui! At Moana Glass you can learn how glass blowing is done and then try your hand at making a piece. We made a glass fish that still stand proudly on our shelf (don’t worry, the instructor helps you so it looks perfect!). Glass has to cool overnight, so be sure to do leave enough time in your trip to pick it up before you leave.
In the afternoon, treat yourself to a relaxing spa day. We got a lovely couples massage and then enjoyed the relaxing spa atmosphere with the sound of the waves crashing outside.

Day 6
For your last day in Maui, be sure to do the Maui Pineapple Tour. Not only will you learn al about how pineapples are grown (and what makes Maui pineapples the best), but you’ll also get pineapples you can take home with you in TSA-approved packaging! Sign up for the tour here: https://gyg.me/TntrYL0X
In the afternoon, you can check out Haleakalā National Park again in the daytime and look for the famous nēnē birds and silver plants. Then stop by a lavender farm on your way back down the mountain and finish the night with a delicious dinner at the Hyatt Regency’s Japengo restaurant.
